About the wine
This is a very powerfull and full bodied wine from Suvereto on the Tuscan coast, made of 100% Syrah, by Italies famous producer Tua Rita. This is probably the their best wine for the future,
as the quality is now already meeting Redigaffi. First definit production was the 2003, so the Syrah is quite a new star for Tua Rita. Connoiseurs wine.
Syrah was firstly introduced in magnums, but since this turned out to be a succes, the production of the Syrah is now continnued with small annual production of 1800 bottles. The Syrah is one of the few wines in the world that gets 200% new barrique barrel aging!
Pairs very well with seasoned stewes and roasted meats. Drinktemperature is 16-18° C.
Drink until 10-15 years after the year of production.
Tasting note
This intensely concentrated 100% Syrah boasts spicy notes of dark ripe fruit such as blackberries and plums with a long finish. Full-bodied with perfectly integrated tannins, it offers an intriguing bouquet that includes cracked black pepper, chocolate, smoked bacon and a hint of mint. This voluptuous, inky wine is aged in 100% new French oak barrels for one year and then transferred to another set of 100% new French barrels for a second year. This thoroughbred treatment results in a wine of superb complexity with a hint of sweet toasty oak. Pairs well with all lamb preparations, as well as beef, pork, venison and hearty stews with rosemary, thyme and other powerful herbs
Producer Information
Tua Rita is located in Suvereto, a small medieval town in the Tuscan province of Livorno, on the coast south of Bolgheri. Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti bought the property in 1984 and planted it with Cabernet and Merlot. With their son in law Stefano Frascolla, they later purchased an additional 40.0 acres of land, bringing the total estate to 75 acres, of which about 55 are planted with vines. The winery lies at just 300 feet above sea level, on a clayey, silty soil.
Stefano Chioccioli, renowned in Italy for his expertise in both the vineyard and the cellar, is the winemaker at the estate. Yields are kept to a minimum to ensure concentration of flavors. The estate’s total annual production is currently just 10.000 cases.
The winery released its first vintage in 1992, and soon began receiving praise and accolades from wine enthusiasts worldwide for its rich, full-bodied wines. Indeed, in just five short years, its (100% Merlot) had achieved cult-like status, receiving outstanding ratings from the world’s most prestigious wine critics and publications. Wine critic Robert M. Parker Jr. called the 1999 Redigaffi “as close to perfection as a wine can get.” The next year, he gave the 2000 Redigaffi a perfect 100 score.
The winery’s Bordeaux blend, Giusto di Notri, also garners near-universal praise. Little wonder that Tua Rita’s wines are considered among the most difficult to find in Italy.
